Carlomagno Cross-Country Ski Center

Located at around 1,500 meters above sea level, the Carlomagno Cross-Country Ski Center is a ski complex dedicated to cross-country skiing in the municipality of San Giovanni in Fiore, within the Sila National Park. It is the largest cross-country ski area in Calabria and one of the main ones in central and southern Italy. Today, visitors can use a mountain refuge offering refreshments, and rent skis, snowshoes, and other snow equipment.

The Carlomagno Center hosts two major events: the “Criterium Interappenninico,” a national event held for the past five years; and the Sila dogsled crossing for the practice of sleddog, which takes place every year using Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Samoyeds, Akita Inus, and Greenland Dogs. The facility has also hosted the athletic training of Giampiero Sabella, a national and world champion in sleddog.
